“Happiest birthday to the brightest sunshines (x2) of my life. My life is forever changed, for the best with you two coming into it with your goofy and adorable laughs, unadulterated sass towards ME and of course - an abundance of love to give to the world,” he wrote.

Inspired by the 1971 musical Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Yash and Roohi’s birthday decorations featured a candy corner. Performers donning signature Willy Wonka hats were also present. A video clip shows the kids standing thrilled against a backdrop of purple balloons and streamers as a young gymnast somersaults over the top of their heads.

In his note, Karan also thanked his mother Hiroo Johar for her unwavering support to the children. “And thank you to my mom, who is forever the strength of our family...and being a mother figure to Yash & Roohi! Love you forever mom,” the 51-year-old filmmaker signed off.

The carousel contains pictures of Yash and Roohi snuggling up to their grandmother. One of the photos shows Karan planting a kiss on his mother’s cheek.

A number of Bollywood celebrities, including Vikrant Massey, Janhvi Kapoor, Sonali Bendre and Abhishek Bachchan, reacted to Karan’s post, sending the kids love and blessings on their special day.

Karan had welcomed Yash and Roohi through surrogacy in February 2017.
