Filmmaker Karan Johar has shared a roundup video offering exclusive insights into the recently concluded Season 8 of Koffee With Karan, calling it the ‘hottest and most successful season’ of the celebrity talk show and promising to return with an even better Season 9.
“As we wrap season 8…I am compelled to say - IT WAS GREAT!...With your love and unabashed tough love, we conquered the streaming charts for 13 weeks in a row,” wrote the Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani filmmaker alongside a video outlining details about all episodes of Season 8 which concluded on January 18.
"All of them came, they conquered and brewed some interesting conversations that left many an impact on the hearts and soul and well, some for just good ol’ chatter amongst everyone,” added Karan, referencing the celebrity guests whose presence played a part in the success of the talk show.
Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh's candid revelations about their personal lives propelled the show to number one position in the final week of October, while the episode showcasing star kids Ananya Panday and Sara Ali Khan secured the second-highest viewership of the season, the video shared by Karan on Instagram highlighted.
Bobby Deol's confession about a particularly challenging phase in his career that led to alcoholism coupled with his elder brother Sunny Deol's reflections on current trends in the film industry made the second episode of the talk show significantly intriguing. It subsequently secured the third-highest viewership for that week.
With Arjun Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur dropping exciting hints about their love life, Koffee With Karan remained the most-watched streaming show even in the third week of December, the video further highlighted.
The lively banter of Alia Bhatt and Kareena Kapoor, the merry reunion of the Student of the Year actors Sidharth Malhotra and Varun Dhawan, and Ajay Devgn’s bromance with his Singham director Rohit Shetty contributed to the talk show, streaming on Disney+ Hotstar, retaining its number one position on the streaming charts.
Sisters Janhvi and Khushi Kapoor and the mother-son duo Saif Ali Khan and Sharmila Tagore kept the candour alive as they spilled the beans on dating, life and friendships.
Rani Mukerji and Kajol’s Kuch Kuch Hota Hai throwback also won hearts as did the final showdown featuring the trending social media personality Orry and content creators Kusha Kapila, Tanmay Bhat and Danish Sait.
In his caption, Karan promised to return with an even better Season 9.
The 51-year-old filmmaker is currently awaiting the release of his production venture Yodha starring Sidharth Malhotra, Disha Patani, Raashii Khanna and Sunil Shetty. Directed by Sagar Ambre and Pushkar Ojha, the actioner is slated to hit theatres on March 15.
