Filmmaker Karan Johar remembered his late father Yash Johar on the latter’s 20th death anniversary on Wednesday, recalling how he had to face his greatest fear of losing a parent when the veteran film producer was diagnosed with a malignant tumour in 2003.

“I can’t believe it’s been 20 years… My biggest fear was losing a parent… On August 2nd, 2003, my father told me he had a malignant tumor… my worst nightmare was staring at me, and yet it was my duty as his child to stay positive and keep the faith… but the worst thing about instincts is that they never lie,” Karan wrote on Instagram alongside a series of old pictures of Yash Johar.

The photos Karan shared also feature his mother Hiroo Johar, the late filmmaker Yash Chopra, actress Sadhna, veteran actor Raj Kapoor, Sridevi, and Amitabh Bachchan.

“We lost him … but we gained every inch of his mammoth goodwill…. I was so proud to be the son of the most solid, soulful and selfless man… he put his relationships above everything else… and has left a legacy of love that my mother and I still live by,” Karan’s note further read.

Celebrities such as Hrithik Roshan, Zoya Akhtar, Manisha Koirala, Manish Malhotra, Seema Sajdeh, and Delnaaz Irani commented on the post.

Yash Johar was known for producing films like Dostana, Agneepath, Gumrah, Duplicate, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, and Kal Ho Naa Ho.
