Filmmaker Karan Johar on Saturday shared snapshots from the sets of Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham—featuring Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor Khan—to mark 23 years of the 2001 blockbuster.
In his note, Karan expressed gratitude to the cast and the audience for showering love on his second directorial venture. “23 years.Phew...truly one of those pinch me moments - right now & even back then...being on set with these legends. It was my second film as a director and I think I was immensely fortunate that this magnanimous cast and the entire crew put in so much faith in me to deliver khushi & gham in abundance,” he wrote on Instagram.
“The biggest shout out goes to the audience...the fans...our family - who continue to watch our film and recite every dialogue, dance on every song and keep this film alive in its truest sense...THANK YOU,” added the 52-year-old director-producer.
The carousel contains stills from the hit tracks Bole Chudiyan and You Are My Soniya. One of the photos also features actor-comedian Johny Lever.
Karan’s home banner Dharma Productions shared a video montage of the most iconic scenes from the film to mark the day. “23 YEARS of pyaar, parivaar and “kaun hai ye, jisne dubaara mud ke mujhe nahi dekha…who is he,” wrote the production house on Instagram, alluding to Kareena’s unforgettable dialogue delivery as the stylish and flamboyant Poo.
The clip is set to the film’s title track sung by the late vocalist Lata Mangeshkar.
Released on December 14 in 2001, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham was shot across multiple locations including the The Great Pyramids in Giza and Waddesdon Manor in Buckinghamshire, England. The film underscores the insurmountable importance of familial bonds.
Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham was a major commercial success, grossing approximately Rs 119.29 crore worldwide, according to industry data-tracking site Sacnilk.
