Karan Johar’s popular celebrity chat show Koffee with Karan is set to return for Season 9 in 2025, the filmmaker confirmed in a recent chat with film critic Sucharita Tyagi on her YouTube channel.
During the interview, Karan discussed plans for the upcoming season, revealing that the team decided to take a break and return in 2025. He mentioned that feedback from the previous season suggested the rapid-fire segment was becoming dull.
“Somewhere around the middle of 2025 we want to come back with a new syntax,” the Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani director said, adding, “I’m happy that the previous season was received well but what I’m not happy about is the fact that people are getting very clamped up (on the couch). I think everyone is fearing a PR nightmare.”
“I would rather make it more chatty and conversational than extract some scandalous answers. Nobody is giving me those answers, anyway,” he added while candidly admitting that the rapid fire round of the eighth season was the most boring one in the history of the show.
“I was like, ‘why am I even doing this?’ You're not giving me questions. Should we just drop the rapid fire, and I will take the hamper because no one really deserves to win it. I am like let's change the world of Koffee with Karan with the ninth season. And it will be back with all the fun and the chattiness,” the filmmaker also shared.
Karan also reminisced about the candidness of past guests like Emraan Hashmi and Mahesh Bhatt, who always provided unfiltered answers. “With the way Bhatt sahab is, he will still give me such answers. But I think I would get into trouble. Like, you called him, and you got these answers. Why didn't you edit?” he quipped.
Koffee with Karan Season 8 streamed on Disney+ Hotstar in 2023. The season kicked off with actors Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone as the guests in the inaugural episode.
Other celebrity guests in the season included Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Sharmila Tagore, Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Rani Mukerji, Kajol, Sara Ali Khan, Ananya Panday, Janhvi Kapoor, Khushi Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor and Zeenat Aman.
