Filmmaker Karan Johar celebrated 18 years of Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna with a BTS video on Sunday, calling the film “the best decision” of his career as it encouraged him to explore “relationships that were messy but beautiful”.

“KANK was the road that I need not have taken but it was the best decision I made to take it...till date! This film not only gave me the best of the times with my absolutely phenomenal cast that honestly, were more my family - but it also gave me the courage to tell stories that I put my conviction into about relationships that were messy but beautiful...just like life? Here’s to 18 years of #KabhiAlvidaNaaKehna,” the 52-year-old filmmaker wrote on Instagram alongside the video.

The short video features Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukherji, Preity Zinta, Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan sharing light-hearted moments on the sets of the 2006 movie. “Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna has been a wild ride from start to finish. My crew, my friends and my cast- we laughed, joked and teased each other,” Karan says in the video.

“Making Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna or simply KANK was possible because each actor is a friend, a dear friend, a member of my family. Each actor seemed to invest as much as me,” the filmmaker also says in the video.

Fashion designer Manish Malhotra commented below Karan’s post. “A film before its times .. love KANK and all those wonderful memories of our long long New York shoot,” he wrote, while Abhishek Bachchan, who played the role of Rishi Talwar in the film, commented, “Best memories.” Actress Neha Dhupia and filmmaker Zoya Akhtar also commented on the post.
