Filmmaker Karan Johar and actress Rani Mukerji twinned in black outfits in a new year selfie shared by the former on his Instagram story on Tuesday with the caption “Ami Rani...2024”.
In the following story, the 51-year-old filmmaker reflected on his learnings of 2023, particularly the need to ignore unnecessary criticism and trolls.
This is a reference to a recent incident wherein Karan snubbed a troll for using the term ‘bahu’ (daughter-in-law) with regressive and derogatory undertones.
Rani, along with Kajol, had recently appeared in the sixth episode of Koffee With Karan Season 8, a celebrity talk show hosted by Karan.
During their conversation on the celebrity chat show, Karan reminisced about casting Rani as Tina in his directorial debut Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998). He recalled how he had to lie to convince Rani to accept the role.
The 45-year-old actress had qualms about being accepted as Shah Rukh Khan’s romantic interest in the movie, given the iconic onscreen chemistry between Shah Rukh and Kajol, it was revealed on the show. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai went on to become the highest-grossing Indian film of 1988.
On the work front, Rani last starred in the legal drama film Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway.
Karan’s romcom Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani starring Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan and Shabana Azmi emerged as the tenth highest grossing film of 2023.
