Karan Johar and Abhishek Bachchan took a trip down memory lane, recalling childhood moments with Shweta Bachchan on her 50th birthday on Sunday, with the former revealing how Abhishek had tied Shweta and him to a tree in Madh Island as a prank.
“My best childhood memories have been with @shwetabachchan and @bachchan,” Karan wrote alongside an Instagram carousel carrying a set of pictures with Shweta, her daughter Navya Naveli Nanda and her brother Abhishek.
Reminiscing a particular childhood memory, the 51-year-old filmmaker continued, “AB Junior tied us to a tree in Madh Island (as a prank) and that began a lifelong journey of family, love and friendship.”
“My mother has always said that Shweta is the daughter she never had and she will always be the sister I so needed,” the Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani director added.
Thanking Shweta for “springing into action” as a “bua (aunt) to his bacchas (kids)”, Karan extended his heartfelt wishes. “With all your quirks and hysterias I love you…You are entertaining and loving in equal measure…today on your milestone birthday I wish you a decade of joy and happiness,” he wrote.
Karan concluded his note by mentioning that Shweta has raised the most well-mannered children, which makes her stand as an inspiration for him as a parent.
In the first picture, Karan and Shweta pose for the lens in white ethnic ensembles. Shweta’s daughter Navya, who is currently hosting the second season of her YouTube podcast What The Hell Navya with her mother and grandmother Jaya Bachchan, also features in one of the photos with Karan and Shweta. In another photo, Abhishek and Shweta give a peck on Karan's cheeks from both sides, making the filmmaker smile.
Shweta instantly responded to the post by appreciating Karan and calling his mother Hiroo Johar her “Gilmore girl”, a reference to the 2000 drama series of the same name starring Alexis Bledel and Lauren Graham.
“Thank you Karan… I love you very much. As far as children go, it takes a village no one knows that better than you. Glad to be part of your children’s world. And most importantly Hiroo aunty my Gilmore Girl ♥️🎀,” the columnist-author commented.
“Happy Birthday, Shwetdi! I might not say it or show it, but you mean the world to me. Love you 🤗,” Abhishek wrote alongside a reel carrying pictures from their childhood as well as adulthood set to the song Atrangi Yaari from their father Amitabh Bachchan’s 2016 crime thriller Wazir.
The video brims with nostalgia as a young Shweta can be seen with Abhishek, their father Amitabh and mother Jaya at different events. In some monochrome pictures in the reel, Shweta plays with Abhishek during their growing up years, while in others, Amitabh joins the brother-sister duo and spends time with them.
“And you me ♥ ️ you're making me emotional stoppp ittt! Love you so much. Hurry up now waiting for you to have lunch, am hangry 🤤,” Shweta commented on the reel.
