Kanguva Day 1 box office collection: Suriya-starrer off to a good start

The Siva-directed fantasy thriller, starring Bobby Deol and Disha Patani, has earned Rs 22 crore nett in India on the opening day

The much-anticipated Tamil epic-fantasy film Kanguva, featuring Suriya and Bobby Deol, collected Rs 22 crore nett on its opening day, according to industry data-tracking portal Sacnilk.

The Tamil version of Kanguva earned Rs 13.65 crore nett, showcasing the popularity of Suriya among Tamil audiences. However, the film experienced a more measured reception in other markets. The Hindi version garnered Rs 3.25 crore nett, while the Kannada and Malayalam versions earned notably lower — Rs 2 lakh nett and Rs 8 lakh nett, respectively.

Directed by Siva, Kanguva features Suriya in a double role, with the narrative spanning both modern and ancient timelines. In the contemporary setting, Suriya plays a streetsmart bounty hunter, while in the historical sequences set in 1070 AD, he portrays a fierce warrior.

Kanguva marks Bollywood actor Bobby Deol’s entry into Tamil cinema. Deol plays the antagonist in the film. The ensemble cast includes Disha Patani, Natarajan Subramaniam, Jagapathi Babu, Yogi Babu, Redin Kingsley, Kovai Sarala and Ananda.

Meanwhile, Kartik Aaryan-starrer Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 ended its second week in theatres with a total collection of Rs 216.10 crore nett. The Anees Bazmee-directed horror comedy beat Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again, which released alongside Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 on Diwali. The Ajay Devgn-starrer cop universe film has earned Rs 214.5 crore nett so far.

Singham Again opened with a collection of Rs 43.5 crore nett, compared to Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’s Day 1 collection of Rs 35.5 crore nett. It maintained the edge during the opening weekend. However, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 took the lead in daily collections on the first Wednesday.
