Kangana Ranaut on Tuesday said Karan Johar's excitement for her upcoming release Emergency has made her scared as she had to suffer a smear campaign the last time the Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani was ‘excited’ to watch one of her films.
The 36-year-old actress-director recalled how her debut directorial Manikarnika was panned by the audience and lead actors in its releasing weekend right after Karan had extended his support towards the film. “Last time when he said he was excited to see Manikarnika, the worse smear campaign of my life was unleashed upon me on its releasing weekend … almost all main actors working in the film were paid to sling mud on me and sabotage the film and suddenly the most successful weekend of my life was turned into a living nightmare for me … Ha ha I am scared now very scared … because he is excited again,” she wrote on X.
Kangana’s upcoming directorial Emergency will showcase a 21-month period from 1975 to 1977 when a state of emergency had been declared across the country by former Indian PM Indira gandhi. The film stars Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhry, Vishak Nair and Shreyas Talpade in lead roles and will hit theatres on November 24.
Apart from Emergency, Kangana is also awaiting the release of her film Tejas in which she plays the role of an Indian Air Force pilot. The film, directed by Sarvesh Mewara, is slated to release on October 20. The actress also has the sequel to the 2005 horror-comedy film Chandramukhi in the pipeline.
