Several celebrities from Bollywood, Tollywood and film industries down south have made it to the lower house of Parliament following the 2024 general elections, the results of which were announced on Tuesday.
Hema Malini
Actress Hema Malini won the Mathura constituency on a BJP ticket for the third consecutive time with a victory margin of 2,93,407 votes.
Shatrughan Sinha
Veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha emerged victorious in the Asansol Lok Sabha constituency on a Trinamool Congress (TMC) ticket. He won by a margin of 59,564 votes, defeating BJP’s Surinder Singh Ahluwalia.
Manoj Tiwari
Bhojpuri star and sitting BJP MP Manoj Tiwari won the North East Delhi Lok Sabha seat for the third consecutive time. He defeated Congress candidate Kanhaiya Kumar by a significant margin of 1,37,066 votes.
Dev
Tollywood star Dev aka Deepak Adhikari secured a third term as an MP from Ghatal constituency in West Bengal. He fought on a TMC ticket against BJP’s Hiran Chatterjee, who is also an actor in the Bengali film industry. Dev won by a margin of 1,82,868 votes.
Satabdi Roy
Satabdi Roy, another actress-turned-politician from Bengal, secured a third term as an MP of Birbhum. Contesting the elections on a TMC ticket, she defeated her rival Debtanu Bhattacharya of the BJP by a margin of 1,97,650 votes.
Ravi Kishan
Laapataa Ladies actor Ravi Kishan claimed victory in Gorakhpur, winning by a margin of 1,03,526 votes, against Samajwadi Party’s Kajal Nishad. This is Kishan’s second term as a BJP MP.
Kangana Ranaut
Making her political debut, Kangana Ranaut contested elections on a BJP ticket from her hometown Mandi in Himachal Pradesh. She achieved a resounding victory, defeating Congress candidate Vikramaditya Singh by a significant margin of 74,755 votes.
Arun Govil
Known for his iconic role as Lord Ram in the television series Ramayan, Arun Govil contested from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh on a BJP ticket. Despite trailing in the initial rounds of counting, he secured the seat, defeating Samajwadi Party candidate Sunita Verma by 10,585 votes.
June Maliah
Actress-turned-politician June Maliah, who became a TMC MLA in West Bengal in 2021, defeated fashion designer Agnimitra Paul of BJP by a margin of 27,191 votes to become an MP from Medinipur constituency.
Rachana Banerjee
Former actress and host of the popular reality game show Didi No. 1, Rachana Banerjee won her maiden Lok Sabha election on a TMC ticket by a margin of 76,853 votes. Her opponent was BJP’s Locket Chatterjee, who is also an actress-turned-politician.
Suresh Gopi
Veteran Malayalam actor Suresh Gopi made history by winning the first BJP seat in Kerala, defeating CPIM's Sunil Kumar by a margin of 74,686 votes. The actor-turned-politician previously served as a Rajya Sabha MP from 2016 to 2022.
