The makers of Ponniyin Selvan: Part 2 have shared an intro video for the film in Kamal Haasan’s voice ahead of the April 28 release of the Mani Ratnam-directed magnum opus.
The two-minute-eight-second-long video shows visuals from Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1 with Haasan’s voiceover recapitulating the story of the Chola empire so far in Tamil language.

In the video, Haasan narrates how the Chola empire faced conspiracies, political unrest and impending war in the year 968 A.D.. King Khottiga (Babu Antony) of the Rashtrakuta kingdom was planning to attack Thanjavur, the capital of the Cholas. To avenge the death of their king Veera Pandiyan (Nassar), the Pandiyan assassins had infiltrated the Chola kingdom. Sundara Chola’s (Prakash Raj) cousin Madhurantakan (Rahman) was also plotting with the ministers to take back the throne, which he believed belonged to him.
Amidst all these, Queen Nandini (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) — the wife of Periya Pazhuvettarayar, the chancellor of the Chola empire — is conspiring to kill crown prince Aditha Karikalan (Chiyaan Vikram) to avenge the death of Veera Pandiyan. She tricks Sundara Chola to pass an order to imprison his younger son Arunmozhi Varman (Jayam Ravi) in Lanka. But a cyclonic storm sank the ship Arunmozhi was on. The news of Arunmozhi’s death sent shockwaves throughout the Chola kingdom. Aditha holds Nandini responsible for his death and attacks Thanjavur.
Ponniyin Selvan: Part 2 also stars Trisha Krishnan, Karthi, Aishwarya Lekshmi and Sobhita Dhulipala. Oscar-winning music composer A.R. Rahman has composed the score for the movie. The period drama will release in cinemas worldwide on April 28 in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada.
