The Hindi version of Nag Ashwin’s dystopian sci-fi film Kalki 2898 AD is now the second most-watched non-English movie on Netflix globally with 13.1 million viewing hours, the streamer announced on Thursday.
“The future has set in across the world. Kalki 2898 AD Hindi is trending globally on Netflix, watch now,” Netflix wrote alongside a poster of the film featuring Amitabh Bachchan, Prabhas and Deepika Padukone.
Also starring Kamal Haasan, Disha Patani, Saswata Chatterjee and Brahmanandam, Kalki 2898 AD made its debut on Netflix on August 22. According to Netflix, 4.5 million viewers have watched the film since it premiered on the platform.
The most watched non-English film on Netflix is the Spanish movie I Can't Live Without You with xyz viewing hours.
Helmed by Nag Ashwin, Kalki 2898 AD seamlessly blends science fiction with Indian mythology. Set in a dystopian future, the story follows a group tasked with rescuing the unborn child of lab subject SUM-80, played by Deepika.
The film boasts an impressive cast, including Prabhas as the mysterious mercenary Bhairavaa, Deepika Padukone as Sumati, and Amitabh Bachchan as the timeless warrior Ashwatthama. Kamal Haasan takes on the role of the antagonist. The ensemble cast includes Disha Patani, Brahmanandam, Saswata Chatterjee and Rajendra Prasad.
Kalki 2898 AD in India has earned Rs 640 crore nett in all languages within 40 days.
Initially scheduled to release on May 9, Kalki 2898 AD hit theatres on June 27. The release date was pushed due to production delays.
