Kalki 2898 AD continues to rule box office despite Indian 2 and Sarfira competition

Nag Ashwin's sci-fi epic featuring Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan and Deepika Padukone has grossed over Rs 1000 crore worldwide

Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2 and Akshay Kumar’s Sarfira’s first-week performances were eclipsed by Nag Ashwin-directed Kalki 2898 AD, which is still going strong at the end of its third week with a total domestic collection of Rs 599.2 crore nett, as per industry data-tracking platform Sacnilk.

Indian 2 crossed the Rs 70-crore mark at the domestic box office at the end of its first week in theatres. The action-drama helmed by Shankar opened with a collection of Rs 25.6 crore nett on Day 1. It earned another 33.55 crore nett over the weekend. The earnings dropped over the weekdays, with it managing to rake in Rs 11.3 crore nett from Monday to Thursday.

Akshay Kumar’s Sarfira, which released in theatres on the same day as Indian 2, managed to collect Rs 18.8 crore nett in seven days. The Sudha Kongara-helmed drama minted only Rs 2.5 crore nett on the opening day, followed by Rs 9.5 crore nett over the weekend. The weekdays contributed Rs 6.8 crore nett to the collection.

In contrast to these figures, Kalki 2898 AD featuring Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone is still performing exceptionally well at the Indian box office even after running for three weeks in the cinemas. It amassed Rs 414.85 crore nett in India in the first week, followed by Rs 128.5 crore nett in the second week. The dystopian thriller added another Rs 55.75 crore nett to its kitty in the third week.

Meanwhile, Lakshya, Raghav Juyal and Tanya Maniktala-starrer Kill, which has completed two weeks in theatres, earned Rs 18.21 crore nett in India so far. The action thriller helmed by Nikhil Nagesh Bhat minted Rs 11.36 crore nett in the first week and Rs 6.85 crore nett in the second week.
