Kal Ho Naa Ho re-release: Shah Rukh Khan’s 2003 film grosses Rs 1.5 crore in five days

Yash Chopra-directed Veer Zaara and Subhas Ghai’s Pardes, both starring Shah Rukh Khan, also re-released in theatres this week

Nikkhil Advani’s 2003 blockbuster Kal Ho Naa Ho — starring Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan and Preity Zinta — has grossed over Rs 1.5 crore in India following its re-release on November 17.

Kal Ho Naa Ho opened with Rs 13 lakh gross on its first day upon re-release. Over the next two days, the film saw a steady increase in collections, grossing Rs 33 lakh gross on Day 2 and Rs 42 lakh gross on Day 3. The film’s box office performance remained strong in the weekdays, with a collection of Rs 31 lakh on Monday and Rs 35 lakh on Tuesday, taking the total earnings to Rs 1.55 crore net at the Indian box office.

Kal Ho Naa Ho is not the only Shah Rukh Khan film currently in theatres. Yash Chopra-directed Veer Zaara and Subhas Ghai’s Pardes are also being screened in select theatres, while Karan Arjun is set to be re-released on November 22.

Veer Zaara, which had re-released in Indian theatres earlier this year also, took the film’s worldwide gross past the Rs 100-crore mark. Originally released in 2004, the romantic drama had earned Rs 97 crore gross during the initial run. The current global collection of Veer Zaara stands at Rs 101.75 crore, as per industry data-tracking portal Sacnilk.

Originally released on November 28, 2003, Kal Ho Naa Ho was a commercial and critical success, known for its emotional storyline. The film tells the story of Aman (Shah Rukh Khan), a man with a terminal illness who encourages his friends Naina (Preity Zinta) and Rohit (Saif Ali Khan) to embrace life and love despite their personal struggles.

Kal Ho Naa Ho also stars Jaya Bachchan, Sushma Seth, Jhanak Shukla, Delnaaz Irani, Lillete Dubey and Reema Lagoo. The music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy also remains popular among audiences.
