Evergreen classics Sholay and The Sound of Music are two of Kajol’s favourite films of all time, the actress said in an Instagram reel to celebrate Cinema Lovers’ Day on Friday.

“Let's start at the very beginning, a very good place to start,” the 49-year-old actress wrote alongside the video, quoting a line from the song Do-Re-Mi from The Sound of Music.

“My favourite film of all time that I can pick up anytime, anywhere and watch at any time, is Sholay,” Kajol said in the video. “I absolutely love the film, I love the characters. It’s like the most perfect book come to life. But thank god it wasn’t a book,” she added.

Directed by Ramesh Sippy, the 1975 film Sholay revolves around the retired police officer Thakur Baldev Singh (Sanjeev Kumar), who recruits two small-time but brave criminals, Veeru (Dharmendra) and Jai (Amitabh Bachchan), to capture the ruthless bandit Gabbar Singh (Amjad Khan). The duo form a deep bond with the villagers and Thakur's family, and fight to restore peace and justice to the village.

The Trial actress said that her favourite English film of all time is 1965’s The Sound of Music. “I have too many films to choose from. But I recently sat down and watched The Sound of Music. And it was amazing because… I loved the music, I loved the characters. I have sat spellbound throughout those entire three hours,” she said, adding that she was so hooked while watching the film that she did not even take breaks for drinking water.

Hollywood's timeless musical The Sound of Music, released in 1965, follows the story of the aspiring nun Maria who becomes a governess to the widowed naval captain Georg von Trapp's seven children. Maria and Georg fall in love after the former changes the family members' lives with her love for music. However, as World War II looms, the family must flee Austria to escape the Nazis.

Kajol worked on several OTT projects including Netflix’s anthology film Lust Stories 2 and Disney+ Hotstar's legal drama series The Trial in the last couple of years.

The actress will next appear in a never-before-seen action avatar in Maharagni alongside Naseeruddin Shah, Prabhudeva and Jisshu Sengupta. She will also star in Kayoze Irani’s thriller Sarzameen opposite Prithviraj Sukumaran as well as Netflix's mystery thriller Do Patti, which also features Kriti Sanon.
