Bollywood actress Kajol’s Noyonika Sengupta is a no-nonsense lawyer grappling with personal problems in the trailer of Disney+ Hotstar’s courtroom drama series The Trial - Pyaar Kaanoon Dhokha.

Dropped by Disney+Hotstar on Monday, the two-minute-long trailer begins with Noyonika’s voice, “A mistake more than once is not a mistake, it is a choice.” Next, we get to see her husband — additional judge Rajiv Sengupta (Jishu Sengupta) — being arrested for taking sexual favours, bringing down a curtain of shame on his family and marriage. Now Nayonika returns to the courtroom after 13 years to support her kids through the turmoil; she gets hired by a law firm and proves her worth by winning several cases.

While Noyonika is making a career out of winning cases, no one is willing to take up Rajiv’s case. He desperately calls Nayonika for help. Will she take the case and face the truth? “Now, proof is the only thing I believe in, not people,” Noyonika says at the end of the trailer.

On Monday, Disney+Hotstar along with Kajol shared the trailer on Instagram. “Trials sirf courtroom mein nahi, zindagi mein bhi hote hain. Watch Noyonika Sen Gupta face the toughest trial of her life - #HotstarSpecials #TheTrial - Pyaar Kaanoon Dhokha, streaming from 14th July,” the streamer wrote in the caption.

Directed by Suparn Verma, is an Indian adaptation of the American series,The Good Wife (2009-16), starring Julianna Margulies in the lead role. The Indian adaptation also features Sheeba Chaddha, Kubbra Sait and Aamir Ali.

Earlier on Friday evening, the DDLJ actress shared a promo of the trailer with the caption, “The tougher the trial, the harder you come back! Catch the trailer for my courtroom drama #HotstarSpecials #TheTrial - Pyaar Kanoon Dhokha on June 12th.”

The Trial - Pyaar Kaanoon Dhokha will be streaming on Disney+Hotstar from July 14.
