Jon Bernthal is all set to reprise his role as Frank Castle, a.k.a the Punisher, in Marvel Studios’s upcoming series Daredevil: Born Again for Disney+, according to entertainment magazine The Hollywood Reporter.

The actor joins Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio, who are already on board to reprise their characters from the Netflix version of the show. The series, which is planned as a whopping 18-episode epic, will begin shooting in New York this month. Writers and executive producers Matt Corman and Chris Ord are behind Born Again, which is expected to arrive in the spring of 2024.

Taking to Instagram yesterday, Bernthal shared an image of him as The Punisher, fuelling excitement among his fans.

Born Again takes its title from a landmark Daredevil storyline published in 1986, written by Frank Miller and drawn by David Mazzuchelli. The series follows Netflix’s Daredevil series, which ran for three seasons from 2013-18. Bernthal first played the grieving father-turned-vigilante on Netflix’s version of Daredevil, debuting the character during 2016’s second season. He went on to headline his own series for Netflix, playing the titular character for two seasons of The Punisher, which spanned 2017-19.

Bernthal was already known to comic book fans before he joined Daredevil thanks to his breakout role as Shane Walsh in The Walking Dead. In recent years, the 46-year-old actor has also appeared in films such as King Richard, The Wolf of Wall Street and Sopranos prequel The Many Saints of Newark, while on TV he headlined the recent series American Gigolo.
