Joker writer-director Todd Philips has shared the first look of pop star Lady Gaga from the upcoming film Joker: Folie à Deux, starring Joaquin Phoenix in the titular role.
Philips posted a close-up of Gaga’s character face-to-face with Phoenix’s Joker on Instagram Tuesday. The singer-turned-actress is seen holding Phoenix’s face in her hands, with her eyes wide open. There is a hint of red paint on their faces, indicating that they might have just kissed.
“Happy Valentine’s Day,” Philips wrote alongside the photo.
Gaga had earlier collaborated with Philips on A Star is Born, which the latter had produced. The pop icon had confirmed her presence in the Joker sequel last August. She had posted a teaser video on Instagram featuring Phoenix and her silhouettes dancing to Cheek to Cheek.
It is widely believed that Gaga will be appearing as Joker’s love interest Harley Quinn in the movie.
Joker (2019) had bagged 11 nominations at the 92nd Academy Awards and won two — Joaquin Phoenix was crowned the best actor while Hildur Guðnadóttir won in the best original score category.
Its sequel Folie à Deux, which is currently in production, is scheduled for release on October 4, 2024.
