Alia Bhatt plays a fiercely protective elder sister who leaves no stone unturned to rescue her brother, played by Vedang Raina, from a foreign prison and bring him back home in the theatrical trailer of Vasan Bala’s Jigra.

Dropped by the makers on Thursday, the trailer opens with Alia’s Satya receiving a late-night call from her brother Ankur (Vedang), who has just been arrested. The following scenes show Satya performing high-octane action as she climbs on the roof of a car and breaks into the prison.

When Alia finally gets a chance to speak with Vedang in jail, she assures her that no one can harm him. Flashbacks from their childhood show a young Alia protecting her brother from bullies.

The casting of Akansha Ranjan as an air hostess is a surprise element in the trailer as it marks her return to a Vasan Bala film after Monica, O My Darling (2022). The name of the flight, Chungking Express, is written on the seat where Alia sits, possibly serving as a tribute from Bala to the 1994 Wong Kar Wai classic.

Jigra is the third project under Alia’s home banner Eternal Sunshine Productions after Netflix’s 2022 dark comedy Darlings and Amazon Prime Video’s 2024 crime-drama series Poacher. The film marks Alia’s first collaboration with Bala, who is known for thrillers like Mard Ko Dard Nahin Hota (2018) and Monica, O My Darling (2022).

Alia, Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, Shaheen Bhatt and Somen Mishra are credited as producers of the upcoming film.

Though earlier scheduled for release on September 27, Jigra will now arrive in the theatres October 11. The release date has been pushed to avoid a box-office clash with Telugu star Jr NTR's Devara.
