Diljit Dosanjh pays tribute to Alia Bhatt’s indomitable spirit while she battles against all odds to save her incarcerated brother, played by Vedang Raina, in new Jigra song Chal Kudiye, which marks Diljit and Alia’s reunion eight years after their 2016 Udta Punjab song Ikk Kudi.
Dropped by the makers on Tuesday, the two-minute-58-second-long video opens with Alia’s heartfelt voiceover vowing to safeguard her younger brother. Alia dons a chic all-black outfit, while Diljit stands out in a striking white ensemble.
As the video progresses, it showcases a powerful visual of female background dancers representing women from various professional fields. Their presence highlights the strength, courage and resilience that women embody in different walks of life.
Through the uplifting track, Diljit also sheds light on the struggles faced by women, urging them to open their eyes and demand justice. He encourages Alia to embrace her female spirit, inspiring her to break free from the shackles of society and achieve her goal.
Sung by Diljit and Alia, Chal Kudiye is directed by Manpreet Singh. The lyrics are penned by Harmanjeet Singh.
Alia announced the collaboration with Diljit four days ago. While Diljit’s chair bears the tagline “sings about Kudi”, Alia’s chair is tagged with “the said Kudi”, alluding to their earlier collaboration.
Jigra is the third project under Alia’s home banner Eternal Sunshine Productions after Netflix’s 2022 dark comedy Darlings and the 2024 Amazon Prime Video crime-drama series Poacher.
Jigra marks Alia’s first collaboration with director Vasan Bala, known for thrillers like Mard Ko Dard Nahin Hota (2018) and Monica, O My Darling (2022).
Alia, Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, Shaheen Bhatt and Somen Mishra are credited as producers on the upcoming project.
Jigra is slated to hit theatres on October 11. The film was earlier scheduled for release on September 27. However, the release date was pushed to avoid a box-office clash with Telugu star Jr NTR's Devara.
