“I’m a killer but I’m also a mother, and I will die protecting her” — Jennifer Lopez shines as a combat-trained, bike-riding, gun-toting assassin who would go to any limit to save her daughter in the latest trailer of Netflix’s action-thriller film The Mother, dropped by the streamer on Tuesday.
Lopez’s character, a reformed killer who refers to herself as “the mother” throughout the two-minute-30-second-long trailer, has to re-embrace her violent self to protect her 12-year-old daughter (played by Lucy Paez) after giving her up at birth.
Her daughter’s kidnapping brings back the animosity in Lopez and she goes on a killing spree — stabbing, punching and shooting men at the drop of a hat.
She soon manages to rescue her daughter but now she must teach her to survive as Lopez’s enemies may target her again.
Also starring Joseph Fiennes, Lucy Paez, Omari Hardwick, Paul Raci and Gael García Bernal, The Mother is a high-on-action drama directed by Niki Caro.
Lopez was last seen as Darcy in the 2022 romantic comedy Shotgun Wedding opposite Josh Duhamel.
The Mother is scheduled for a Mother’s Day release this year on May 12.
