After Taylor Swift and George Clooney, Jennifer Lawrence has now endorsed Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris, saying her decision has been influenced by the importance of safeguarding abortion rights.
“Abortion is literally on the ballot,” she recently said to US-based People Magazine during an interview.
A vocal advocate for women’s rights, Lawrence clarified her stance, explaining why she has thrown her lot with Harris in the run-up to the US elections. “I’m voting for Kamala Harris because I think she’s an amazing candidate and I know that she will do whatever she can to protect reproductive rights.”
The Oscar-winning actress also urged others to follow suit. “That’s the most important thing, is to not let somebody into the White House who is going to ban abortion,” she added.
According to American entertainment magazine Variety, Lawrence is currently producing two documentaries under her production banner Excellent Cadaver, both of which focus on this critical issue. Titled Bread and Roses, one of the films follows the lives of three women living under Taliban rule in Afghanistan, while the other, Zurawski v Texas, covers the 2023 legal battle over abortion care in Texas.
The US presidential election, which will pit Republican candidate Dopnal Trump against Harris, will be held on November 5.
