Hollywood’s veteran action star Jean-Claude Van Damme and actress Megan Fox are set to lend their voices to characters in Warner Brothers Games’ Mortal Kombat 1 (MK1) video game, based on the popular Mortal Kombat series.
Van Damme, now 62, will voice a special skin for the character Johnny Cage in the game. The character skin looks similar to Van Damme’s Frank Dux from the 1988 action film Bloodsport with which the actor shot to fame as a martial arts star.
Van Damme recently voiced the character Jean Clawed in the 2022 animated film Minions: The Rise of Gru.
The video game also features the voice of Transformers actress Megan Fox. The 37-year-old has voiced the character Nitara, a vampire who makes a return to the Mortal Kombat universe.
In the trailer revealing the return of Nitara to MK1, Fox talks about her experience voicing the character as well as why she resonated with her. “I really like her. She is a vampire which obviously resonates for whatever reason,” Fox jokes in the trailer, referring to her movie Jennifer’s Body (2009) in which she played a succubus.
According to reports, popular onscreen characters like Homelander from The Boys, Omni-man from Invincible and Peacemaker from The Suicide Squad (2021) will also appear as game characters in MK1.
A recent trailer of the video game, launched by WB Games, shows wrestler-turned-actor Dave Bautista pushing a trolley of books in a library before whispering “Mortal Kombat” to a library goer. This sets off a chain reaction as more and more people start uttering the name of the game, which is also a battle cry.
MK1, playable on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Windows, will be released on September 19. Those who have pre-purchased the game get an early access release on September 14.
