Soldier, policeman, hijacker, messiah — Shah Rukh Khan’s many avatars promise a revenge saga tinted with action, drama and retribution in the Jawan trailer.
The 57-year-old actor shows off seven different looks, including his much-talked-about bald look, in the two-minute-45-second-long trailer that garnered over one million views on YouTube in hardly 30 minutes since its release on Thursday.
Produced by Gauri Khan for Red Chillies Entertainment, the action thriller directed by Atlee also stars Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi.
In the trailer, Shah Rukh wields a weapon that looks like a compromise between a hammer and a chainsaw, delivering a true-to-life punchline — Beta ko haath lagaa ne se pehle baap se toh baat kar leta — before sending a set of goons flying through the air. The clip shows a father-son saga as well as Shah Rukh’s attempts to stop Vijay Sethupathi’s vicious arms dealer Kalee from unleashing a reign of terror across India.
Beginning with Shah Rukh’s voiceover, the clip shows fight sequences and gunfights. “There was a king. He lost battle after battle. So he roamed the jungle hungry and thirsty. Full of rage,” Shah Rukh said, promising a revenge saga full of emotions, anger and retribution.
The clip presents more moments from the metro hijack scene teased in the Jawan prevue with a bald Shah Rukh getting cheeky with Nayanthara’s gun-wielding cop while negotiating over the phone. The video then introduces Shah Rukh’s girl gang — Sanya Malhotra, Priyamani, Riddhi Dogra and Sanjeeta Bhattacharya.
Sethupathi’s Kalee introduces himself as “the fourth largest weapon dealer in the world” as he talks about his vast criminal empire. The actor sports two looks — one of a young man with black hair and a beard and the other where his hair is grey after the passing of some years. As a young man, Sethupathi is seen negotiating with a moustache-sporting soldier played by Shah Rukh, who refuses to be a part of his evil plan. It is followed by a montage of Kalee’s terror that wreaks havoc on Shah Rukh’s family and village.

Apart from its high-octane car chases and hand-to-hand combat scenes, the trailer also shows tender song-and-dance sequences featuring a sari-clad Deepika Padukone. The Pathaan actress, who will have a special appearance in the film, beats Shah Rukh Khan with ease during what seems a playful challenge in the rain.
The trailer ends with a cigar-smoking Shah Rukh battling goons with a belt to the tune of Mohammed Rafi’s Ramaiya Vastavaiya.
“Of Justice & A Jawan. Of Women & their Vengeance. Of a Mother & A Son. And of course, a lot of Fun!!! Ready Ahhh!!! #JawanTrailer out now!,” Shah Rukh wrote, sharing the trailer on social media.
Atlee is making his Bollywood debut with the film. The music of the film is composed by Anirudh Ravichander. The film also features Priyamani, Riddhi Dogra, Sanjeeta Bhattacharya and Sunil Grover.
Jawan will hit the theatres on September 7 in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
