A bald Shah Rukh Khan dancing to Hemanta Mukhopadhyay’s Bekarar Karke Hamein before terrified commuters on a hijacked metro is the best part of the much-awaited Jawan trailer, reminding us of Joaquin Phoenix’s famous jig on the stairs in The Joker.
Produced by Gauri Khan for Red Chillies Entertainment, the action thriller directed by Atlee also stars Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi, both of whom are seen going all guns blazing in the trailer that dropped on Monday morning. The surprise element is a sari-clad Deepika Padukone, taking down a man with ease, who will have a special appearance in the film.
The trailer opens with a group of terrorists launching an attack on a village at night followed by a montage of panic-stricken people running amok at a metro station. The sequence is backed by Shah Rukh’s voiceover, “Who am I? What am I? I don’t know. A promise made to a mother or an unfinished purpose? Am I good or bad, a blessing or a curse? Ask yourself because I am you, for better or worse.”
The clip shows Shah Rukh as a braveheart police officer before introducing his masked look to showcase the duality of his character. We see glimpses of the Pathaan actor taking on goons with heavy artillery. He then introduces his ‘gang of girls’ — including Sanya Malhotra and The Family Man actress Priyamani.
The glimpses promise high-octane action with car chases, battle sequences and brutal hand-to-hand combat. The trailer also features song-and-dance sequences featuring a clean-shaven Shah Rukh.
The two-minute-12-second prevue ends with Shah Rukh revealing his bald look by removing the bandage off his face and dancing to Bekarar Karke Hamein on a subway train.
