Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan and Dunki have been nominated in the best film category at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM), with the 58-year-old star in the fray for the best actor award alongside Mammootty, Diljit Dosanjh, Kartik Aaryan, Ranveer Singh and Vikrant Massey.

“The IFFM AWARDS 2024 nominations are here,” wrote the organisers on Wednesday, sharing the list of nominees on social media.

The other movies nominated in the best film category of IFFM are Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s 12th Fail, Imtiaz Ali’s Amar Singh Chamkila, Kabir Khan’s Chandu Champion, Nithilan Swaminathan’s Maharaja, Girish A. D.’s Premalu and Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.

The best actor nominations also include Fahadh Faasil for Aavesham, Mithun Chakraborty for Kabuliwala, Sparsh Srivastava for Laapataa Ladies and Vicky Kaushal for Sam Bahadur.

The 15th edition of IFFM is set to commence on August 15, coinciding with Independence Day, and conclude on August 25 in Australia’s Melbourne.

Directed by Atlee and produced under Shah Rukh Khan’s home banner Red Chillies Entertainment, Jawan stars Shah Rukh in a dual role as a father and son who team up to combat corruption in society. The film features Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Deepika Padukone, Priyamani and Sanya Malhotra in supporting roles. Released theatrically on 7 September 2023, Jawan became the highest-grossing Hindi film of 2023, earning Rs 1,160 crore net worldwide, according to IMDb.

Dunki, directed by Rajkumar Hirani and produced under Red Chillies Entertainment, grossed over Rs 470 crore worldwide, thereby emerging as the fifth highest-grossing Hindi film of 2023. The film stars Shah Rukh alongside Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal and Boman Irani. Dunki is an immigration comedy that follows Hardy’s (Shah Rukh) efforts to help his friends Mannu (Taapsee Pannu), Balli (Anil Grover), Buggu (Vikram Kochhar) and Sukhi (Vicky Kaushal) reach London for a better life. Unable to secure visas due to their financial situation, Hardy and his friends decide to travel to London via the illegal 'dunki' route.

Shah Rukh Khan will also be honoured with Locarno Film Festival’s career achievement award, the Pardo alla Carriera, at the 77th Edition of the event in Switzerland.

“To welcome a living legend like Shah Rukh Khan in Locarno is a dream come true. The actor and film producer – a true Indian superstar, a symbol of the vitality of Hindi-language cinema – will receive our career achievement award, the Pardo alla Carriera, at Locarno77,” the organisers recently announced on X (formerly Twitter).

On the work front, Shah Rukh’s upcoming movie, reportedly titled King, is expected to feature him alongside his daughter Suhana Khan. However, an official announcement regarding King is still awaited.
