Jamie Lee Curtis will lobby for the role of Dr Kureha for the second season of Netflix’s live-action series One Piece, the Hollywood veteran confirmed on Friday.

Sharing a fan art of herself as Dr Kureha on Instagram, Curtis mentioned that she will lobby for the role once the Hollywood strike against AMPTP is settled. “ONCE the STRIKE against the greed of the AMTPT is SETTLED with a FAIR CONTRACT, I will lobby along with the growing fan frenzy to become Doctor Kureha in @onepiecenetflix,” she wrote on the social media platform.

Netflix’s One Piece live-action show is based on Eiichiro Oda’s ongoing manga of the same name. In the manga and its anime adaptation, Dr Kureha is one of the few doctors left in Drum Island who mentors Tony Tony Chopper, a reindeer with human abilities. With instructions from Dr Kureha, often referred to as a “witch-doctor” because of her appearance, Chopper gains medical skills and later joins the Straw Hat Pirates to fulfil his dream of becoming a great doctor capable of curing any illness.

Curtis, known for her roles in The Halloween (1978) and Knives Out (2019), had stated many times in the past that she is a massive fan of Eiichiro Oda’s works. She had also taken to social media earlier this year and jokingly asked Netflix for the role.

Set in the world of pirates, One Piece revolves around Monkey D. Luffy, a young boy who aspires to become a pirate king. He embarks on a quest with his Straw Hat Pirates crew to find the fabled One Piece — a treasure in the Grand Line, a gigantic ocean current circling around the planet.

Directed by Matt Owens and Steven Maeda jointly and supervised by Oda himself, One Piece live-action series continues to be at No. 1 on Netflix’s top 10 global list since its debut on August 31.
