Actor Jamie Foxx on Saturday opened up about his long road to recovery in his first public statement on social media since a health scare led to his hospitalisation in April.

In a heartfelt Instagram video, the Oscar-winning actor expressed his gratitude to everyone who prayed and sent him messages during his recovery. “I cannot even begin to tell you how far it took me and how it brought me back,” he said.

Though Foxx did not disclose specific details about his illness, the actor acknowledged that he went through something that he “would never ever go through." He admitted that many people were eager for updates, but he preferred not to be seen in a vulnerable state.

“I know a lot of people were waiting or wanting to hear updates but to be honest with you, I just didn’t want you to see me like that man. I want you to see me laughing, having a good time partying, cracking a joke, doing a movie, television show. I didn’t want you to see me with tubes running out of me and trying to figure out if I was gonna make it through,” he said in the video.

Foxx went on to talk about the immense support he received from his sister and daughter, who he credited with saving his life. He also praised medical professionals for putting him on the mend. “To them, to God, to a lot of great medical people, I’m able to leave you this video. I cannot tell you how great it feels to have your family kick in in such a way, and y’all know they kept it airtight, they didn’t let nothing out, they protected me, and that’s what I hope that everyone could have in moments like these,” he added.

The Django Unchained actor also took a moment to debunk rumours circulating on social media about his health, confirming that his eyes were in good condition and that he was not paralysed. “I went to hell and back, and my road to recovery had some potholes as well. But I’m coming back and I’m able to work,” he explained.

Foxx also expressed profound gratitude for the love and support he received from his fans. “If you see me out from now on and every once in a while I just burst into tears, it's just because it's been tough, man. I was sick, man. But now I got my legs under me, so you're gonna see me out,” he signed off.

Earlier in April, Corinne, daughter of the actor, had issued a statement stating that her father had developed “medical complications”. She, too, had not revealed any details about the nature of the health problem.
