A first look of David Corenswet as Superman and his redesigned super-suit with the comic-accurate S curl has been shared by DC chief James Gunn from his upcoming superhero film Superman, which will hit theatres on July 11, 2025.
The picture humanises the man of steel who, just like us, puts on one classic red boot at a time for another busy day ahead — to thwart another devastating attack that is taking place on the city outside. Over his superhero costume, which is looking dirty apparently from the last day’s work, Corenswet’s Superman wears a crimson cape and his black tresses are slicked back.
“Get ready. #Superman 7.11.25,” Gunn captioned the picture posted on Instagram on Monday. Gunn’s upcoming film, previously titled Superman: Legacy, is the first film in DCU's Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters.
Apart from Corenswet, Superman also stars House of Cards actress Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, while British actor Nicholas Hoult is set to play Superman’s arch-enemy Lex Luthor. The rest of the cast includes Anthony Carrigan, Skyler Gisondo, Nathan Fillon, Isabela Mercad and Edi Gathegi.
Known for directing the Guardian of the Galaxy films, The Suicide Squad (2021) and the original Max series Peacemaker (2022), Gunn has also written the screenplay for the upcoming superhero movie.
Superman is co-produced by DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran, who has also produced Aquaman films and The Conjuring franchise.
