DC chief James Gunn on Saturday shared a behind-the-scenes video of the motion-capture sequence of him dancing as Groot and his brother Sean Gunn as Rocket in 2023’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

“Original dance mocap by me and Sean for #GuardiansoftheGalaxyVol3 #GotgVol3,” The Suicide Squad director wrote alongside the video shared on Instagram.

The dance sequence, which takes place at the end of the movie, features Groot and Rocket letting loose on Knowhere and dancing their hearts out to Florence + the Machine’s Dog Days Are Over.

In the new BTS video, James can be seen sporting a black t-shirt and matching trousers. He grooves along to the song with his brother Sean as a crowd of people surround them and add to the fun.

Dave Bautista, who plays Drax in the Guardians of the Galaxy films, commented, “Yes. And I will never be able to listen to that song again without tearing up.”

Groot is voiced by Vin Diesel and portrayed on screen with the help of motion capture by Diesel, James, Sean, Krystian Godlewski and Terry Notary.

A VFX breakdown video dropped by Oscar-winning VFX studio Framestore eight months ago on YouTube includes the entire dance sequence of Groot and Rocket. It offered a peek into the animation process of putting Groot's heavy tree muscles on James’ body and Sean showcasing his moves in a mocap suit.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which came out on May 5 last year, is the last movie in the film franchise. It also marks the end of James’ Marvel run after 11 years and three Guardians of the Galaxy movies.

James has the film Superman in the pipeline, slated to release on July 11, 2025. The upcoming superhero film stars David Corenswet as the eponymous hero alongside Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. British actor Nicholas Hoult is set to play Superman’s arch-enemy Lex Luthor, while the rest of the cast includes Anthony Carrigan, Skyler Gisondo, Nathan Fillon, Isabela Mercad and Edi Gathegi.
