Actor Daniel Craig grabbed a bottle of vodka and made martinis for himself upon learning that he landed the career-defining role of James Bond in Martin Campbell’s 2006 spy movie Casino Royale, he said in an old interview with actress Tara Sharma, a clip of which was shared by the latter on social media recently.

“I was shopping at the time. That’s a bit sort of. I put down my shopping bag. I picked up a bottle of vodka and a bottle of amuse. I went home and made myself a martini,” said Craig, recalling how he celebrated the feat.

Craig also revealed that he would not mind being typecast as Bond. “A pretty high class problem to have,” he retorted light-heartedly.

The 56-year-old actor has played secret agent James Bond in five films so far — Casino Royale (2006), Quantum of Solace (2008), Skyfall (2012), Spectre (2015) and No Time to Die (2021). All these movies are based on novels by Ian Fleming, the creator of James Bond. Bond is a British secret agent working for intelligence organisation MI6 under the codename 007.

Craig’s first Bond film, Casino Royale, starred him alongside Eva Green, Mads Mikkelsen, Judi Dench and Jeffrey Wright. It remained the highest-grossing James Bond film until the release of Skyfall in 2012.

Sharing a clip from the old interview on Instagram, Tara revealed how her early stint as an interviewer had inspired her to begin her own talk show. “#JamesBond began #TheTaraSharmaShow as I realised how much I love #interviewing #inspiring people and hearing their stories, connecting with them and sharing that emotion, warmth and genuine messaging with the world, with my viewers,” she wrote in her note.

Tara also thanked Craig for putting her at ease with “fun banter and a few laughs.” “Thank you for being so amazing not just as #Bond in #CasinoRoyale and the other films but as my first hugely famous guest. I thought I’d be nervous and I do remember my lips quivering with nerves a bit at first and I worried that the camera would catch it but very quickly you put me at ease with fun banter and a few laughs,” she wrote, lauding Craig’s stellar portrayal of Bond.

Tara, who made her Bollywood debut with Anupam Kher’s 2002 directorial Om Jai Jagadish, began The Tara Sharma Show in 2011. A multi-platform show to discuss topical family, parenting, women's and children's issues, The Tara Sharma Show has completed five seasons, having aired on Pogo, NDTV Imagine, Colors, Nickelodeon and Star World. The show is also available to stream on the actress’ social media platforms like YouTube, Facebook and Instagram.

On the work front, Craig last appeared in the period drama Queer, which also stars Drew Starkey, Jason Schwartzman, Henry Zaga, Omar Apollo and Lesley Manville. Craig is currently working on the thriller Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, expected to hit theatres next year.
