“He acts all nice like he is Mr Rogers, but then he’ll haul off,” says one of the characters about Jake Gyllenhaal’s Elwood Dalton, an ex-UFC fighter who ends up working as a bouncer at a roadhouse in Florida Keys in the official trailer of Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming action film Road House.

Dropped by the streaming platform on Friday, the two-minute-48-second-long trailer is full of high-octane action scenes, chronicling Dalton’s entry into the world of land sharks. Things seem to be looking up for Dalton’s washed-out fighter when the proprietor of a roadhouse in Florida Keys offers him the job of overseeing security at her establishment. When Dalton accepts the offer, he is brought face to face with more than just unruly clients.

A corrupt developer scheming to transform the roadhouse into an upscale for wealthy miscreants vows to replace Dalton with his own muscle man Knox (Conor McGregor). Dalton and Knox inevitably come to blows with each other as glass shards scatter, vehicles overturn and explosions reverberate throughout the trailer, which draws to a close with Dalton’s ironic observation, “People seem a little aggressive around here.”

Billed as an ‘adrenaline-fuelled reimagining’ of Rowdy Herrington’s eponymous 1989 film, Road House also features Daniela Melchior, Billy Magnussen, Joaquim de Almeida, Lukas Gage and Arturo Castro in key roles. It also marks the acting debut of McGregor, a mixed martial artiste and boxer by profession.

Road House is directed by Edge of Tomorrow helmer Doug Liman from a screenplay written by Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry.

Produced by Joel Silver, Road House is slated to arrive on Amazon Prime Video on March 21 following its world premiere at South by Southwest on March 8.
