Actor Jake Gyllenhaal is set to reprise his role as MMA fighter-turned-bouncer Elwood Dalton in a sequel of Amazon Prime Video’s action film Road House, the streamer announced on Tuesday.
“With nearly 80 million viewers to date, Jake Gyllenhaal is set to reprise his role as Elwood Dalton in a Road House sequel,” Prime Video wrote alongside a character poster of Gyllenhaal from the movie on Instagram.
Gyllenhaal plays an ex-UFC fighter who accepts an offer of working as a bouncer at a roadhouse in Florida Keys. He tries his best to save the establishment and fights patrons with malicious intent, which later makes him cross paths with Conor McGregor’s character Knox.
A reimagining of Rowdy Herrington’s 1989 cult-classic starring Patrick Swayze and Sam Elliott, Road House premiered on March 21.
In April, Prime Video shared a tweet announcing the film as the streamer’s “most-watched produced film debut ever on a worldwide basis”.
However, it is unclear whether filmmaker Doug Liman will return to direct the upcoming sequel.
Based on the screenplay of the original movie by David Lee Henry and Hilary Henkin, Road House also stars Post Malone, Daniela Melchior, Billy Magnussen, Jessica Williams and Lukas Gage.
