Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio will team up for a new Karate Kid movie, the actors announced on social media on Tuesday.

While Chan had starred in the 2010 remake of the iconic martial arts movie franchise, Macchio headlined the original 1984 film.

Featuring the two actors, a video released by the official social media handle of the Karate Kid movie franchise confirmed the news. Both the actors announced in the video that they would be starting a global casting search for the next Karate Kid to star in the movie, asking young actors to submit their audition tapes on KarateKidCasting.com.

“Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio are looking for the next Karate Kid to star in the new #KarateKidMovie. The global search starts now,” says the caption of the video.

Though the plot of the new movie has been kept under wraps, it seems Ralph will reprise his role from the 1984 movie as Daniel LaRusso, a bullied high school student whose life changes after he gets mentored by a wise Karate sensei. Jackie will play the Kung Fu master Mr Miyagi, who coached Jaden Smith’s Dre Parker in the 2010 remake of The Karate Kid.

The Karate Kid follows a young Daniel LaRusso mentored by Mr Miyagi to learn karate. Facing bullies and rivalry, Daniel competes in the All Valley Karate Tournament. In the sequels, his journey continues with new challenges and adversaries, exploring themes of discipline and friendship.

The Karate Kid movies have inspired the Cobra Kai series (2018-2023), now available to stream on Netflix, in which Macchio reprised his role as Daniel LaRusso from the original movie.
