The film Fatafati is a middle-class love story of how a woman realises her dreams while not conforming to societal standards of beauty. It is about a desire to start a meaningful dialogue. Having completed a 75-day run in the theatres, Fatafati is all set for its OTT premiere. SonyLIV has teamed up with Windows Production to present the exclusive digital premieres of three Bengali films — Fatafati, Lokkhi Chhele and Haami 2. Produced by Windows and presented by Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee, Fatafati, which streams on SonyLIV from August 4, is Aritra Mukherjee’s third film after Brahma Janen Gopon Kommoti and Baba Baby O…. The story revolves around Phullora, a tailor from the suburbs with a gifted sense of design who is ridiculed for being on the heavier side. The film goes on to show her journey when she emerges as a fashion influencer despite the odds. “Fatafati, Lokkhi Chhele and Haami 2 will stream in six languages and one will get to see them on the popular national streaming platform SonyLIV. I feel it’s a huge step for Bengali cinema. It has opened doors to new possibilities,” says Shiboprosad. A The Telegraph chat.

Why release it in six languages?

When I watch a Malayalam or a Telugu film, I stream it on a national platform. The reach is huge. We are releasing the films in Bengali, Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada. They have been dubbed into five languages. We are really excited that three of our films, which have been loved by the audience, will soon start streaming on SonyLIV. For Bengal, it’s an important event and we are proud to be associated with SonyLIV. The best dubbing artistes have worked on our films. As a platform, SonyLIV has proved its excellence when they work in multiple languages. They offer the best quality.

The objective is to reach a large number of people across the world. Every Friday we get to see 10 or more films and web shows releasing. It’s important to take your films to the audience as soon as possible.

The time has come to release Bengali films on a national platform. The audience for Bengali films will also grow.

Fatafati has completed 75 days....

With each passing day, the popularity of the film grew and it got a huge boost on the weekends. The film resonated with the audience because people could identify with the characters and the situations. The same goes for our other films. That’s why all of them were so successful. I believe that the more regional the story, the more universal is the appeal. Across India, you can find many such stories. Punjabi and Marathi films are doing so well. Assamese film Sri Raghupati was a success. The Bengali films that have worked recently all have stories that are rooted.

Aritra has delivered back-to-back hits....

It is a huge thing for Aritra. He is the most producer-friendly underrated director. He only focuses on his work. His confidence has grown. All three films directed by him are successful at the box office.
