The 51st International Emmy Awards, held in New York on Tuesday, saw the dominance of UK television shows, including The Responder, Derry Girls and Mariupol: The People’s Story, as they secured the highest number of wins for outstanding television productions.

The star-studded event, which brought together 56 nominees from 20 countries, also witnessed a rare tie between the UK’s Derry Girls and India’s Vir Das: Landing, resulting in a shared victory for both comedy shows.

UK actor Martin Freeman claimed the Best Performance by an Actor award for his performance in The Responder, while Mexico’s Karla Souza received the Best Performance by an Actress accolade for her role in La Caída.

The Drama Series category, however, witnessed Germany’s triumph, with The Empress from Sommerhaus Serien GmbH clinching the prestigious award.

A special highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Founders Emmy to Jesse Armstrong, the creative genius behind the critically acclaimed HBO series Succession. Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content, bestowed the honour on Armstrong, recognising the latter’s exceptional contribution to the television industry.

In a nod to Indian television, the Directorate Award was presented to Ektaa Kapoor, co-founder of Balaji Telefilms, by Deepak Chopra. Kapoor’s pioneering work in the entertainment industry, particularly in shaping the landscape of Indian television, was acknowledged and celebrated.
