Nikkhil Advani’s Freedom at Midnight, that is set to stream on SonyLIV, promises an immersive dive into one of India’s most pivotal eras — the struggle for Independence and the subsequent Partition. From the early calls for self-rule to the triumphant moment of Independence in 1947, the series, based on the book by Dominique Lapierre and Larry Collins, delves into the motivations, conflict and sacrifices of key political figures like Mahatma Gandhi (played by Chirag Vohra), Jawaharlal Nehru (played by Sidhant Gupta) and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel ( played by Rajendra Chawla).
Along with these names, global talent like Luke McGibney, Andrew Cullum, Richard Teverson, Alistair Finlay, and Cordelia Bugeja, will also star in the series. McGibney and Bugeja embody the last Viceroy and Vicereine of India, namely Lord Louis Mountbatten and Lady Edwina Mountbatten, respectively. Finlay essays Archibald Wavell, the commander-in-chief and Viceroy of India preceding Mountbatten. Cullum brings alive the character of Clement Atlee, the prime minister of the United Kingdom from 1945 to 1951 while Teverson portrays Cyril Radcliffe, the chairman of the Boundary Commission for the Partition of India.
With meticulous research and a stellar cast, Sony LIV aims to deliver a cinematic homage to India’s iconic history and the quest for freedom. The story is penned by Abhinandan Gupta, Adwitiya Kareng Das, Gundeep Kaur, Divya Nidhi Sharma, Revanta Sarabhai, and Ethan Taylor.
Mona Singh is on a roll, shoots for three projects simultaneously
The praise for Made in Heaven 2 has kept Mona Singh busy. The actor is now juggling three projects simultaneously.
“This is a super exciting time for me, shooting three projects at the same time, something that has not happened to me before. After the tremendous success of Made In Heaven 2 and all the love for (her character) Bulbul Johri, it is just an amazing place to be in and to be shooting so many projects together with these different characters. I can’t wait for everyone to see what’s in store next,” said Mona, who shot into the spotlight playing the title character in Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin more than two decades ago.
Mona’s next few projects, which are being shot in Delhi, Goa and Mumbai, include Ma Kasum on Prime Video and Paan Parda Zarda, which is set against the world of illegal opium smuggling in central India. The third project is possibly Stardom, that marks the directorial debut of Aryan Khan, superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s son.
