Marathi web series Lampan clinched the best web series award at the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) on Thursday, winning a cash prize of Rs. 10,00,000 and individual certificates for those involved in the making of the show.
“Honoring brilliance in digital storytelling! ✨🎥 Lampan, directed by Nipun Avinash Dharmadhikari, proudly takes home the Best Web Series (OTT) Award at the 55th International Film Festival of India,” the official handle of the festival posted on X.
Directed by Nipun Avinash Dharmadhikari and based on stories written by Prakash Narayan Sant, Lampan follows the journey of a dreamy, curious child in rural India. The Sony LIV series poignantly captures the emotional and social challenges faced by a young boy as he navigates his identity within a close-knit community with themes of self-empowerment, community ties, and personal growth.
The Best Web Series (OTT) Award recognises innovation in digital storytelling and was introduced in 2023 to honour outstanding creative contributions on OTT platforms. The prize was bagged by TVF’s Panchayat in the inaugural year.
This year’s jury was chaired by celebrated filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar, alongside Krishna Hebbale, Rupali Ganguli, and Harish Shankar.
“Art has no limits. It has no boundaries. And you just connect. It can be in any language. And I think that is the best thing that has happened today throughout the world. You don't require the knowledge of a specific language to understand the emotion because there are subtitles too. Emotions are thus very well connected,” Bhandarkar said.
“Thank you for all the love! #Lampan wins hearts and bags the best series award at the #55IFFI,” Sony LIV posted on social media, reacting to the achievement.
