Iconic horror anthology TV series Zee Horror Show is set for a reboot, streaming platform ZEE5 announced on Sunday. With the development, it joins the growing list of 1990s shows — including CID on Sony Entertainment Television and Fauji on Doordarshan — that are returning to the screens.
“Taiyaar ho jaiye, kyunki yeh darr ka anjaam nahi, shuruaat hai! ZEE Horror Show – jald hi aa raha hai ZEE5 par bilkul free. ComingSoon,” the streamer wrote on social media alongside a 15-second teaser.
Originally aired on Zee TV from 1993 to 2001, Zee Horror Show was a trailblazer in the Indian horror genre. More than 350 episodes of the show aired on Indian television, making it one of the most popular and long-running weekly shows in the ’90s.
Zee Horror Show was created by the Ramsay Brothers, the pioneers of Indian horror films, who captivated audiences with tales filled with ghostly apparitions, haunted mansions, and dark secrets lurking in the shadows.
Zee Horror Show was an anthology series, with each episode presenting a self-contained story centred on paranormal activities, haunted houses, vengeful spirits, or cursed objects. Each episode began with a signature title sequence featuring ominous music — composed by Ajit Singh and Uttam Singh — that sent chills down the spine, setting the stage for the eerie tale that would follow. The opening narration, often delivered in a grave tone, would introduce the story.
The first episode, titled Dastak, featured Pankaj Dheer, Shagufta Ali and Archana Puran Singh. It aired on August 9, 1993. The last episode, starring Rohit Roy and Deepshikha Nagpal, aired in 2001.
