Huma Qureshi is set to star in the Bikas Mishra-directed investigative police procedural drama Bayaan, she announced on Friday.
“A film I am very excited about...#Bayaan, developed at Film Independent, Los Angeles goes on floors. It’s a rare combination: a fantastic script, a talented crew, and their complete dedication to their work. The energy is infectious.,” Huma wrote on Instagram alongside a screenshot of a news report published in the US-based entertainment magazine Variety.
The film, also starring Chandrachur Singh and Sachin Khedekar, is set to begin production in Rajasthan this month. Bayaan is jointly produced by Shiladitya Bora (Platoon One Films), Madhu Sharma (Summit Studios), Kunal Kumar, and Anshuman Singh.
Set against the stunning landscape of Rajasthan, the drama follows Roohi, a female detective sent to a small town in Rajasthan to investigate her first case as a lead investigator.
The film is supported by the International Film Festival Rotterdam’s Hubert Bals Fund. According to a statement from the makers, director Bikas Mishra received mentorship from Craig Mazin, the creator of HBO’s Chernobyl and The Last of Us, and script advice from writer Jeff Stockwell and story editor Ruth Atkinson.
Producer Shiladitya Bora emphasized the alignment of Bayaan with his production house's vision, noting that backing the director's vision and empowering him to create a breakout film is his primary goal.
“As a producer, I'm always looking for that one script that will be a breakout film for everyone involved. My job is to back the director's vision and empower him to create a film that will take us places. Huma's backing reaffirms my faith in the project,” said Bora.
The film features many acclaimed actors including Avijit Dutt, Shampa Mandal, Priti Shukla, Vibhor Mayank, and Aditi Kanchan Singh.
