The Wolverine star Hugh Jackman and his wife Deborra-lee Furness have announced their separation after 27 years of marriage and bringing up two children together.
“We have been blessed to share almost 3 decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage. Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth,” the couple said in a joint statement.
The Aussie couple met in 1995 on the sets of an Australian television show Corelli. Deborra-lee Furness at the time was the more established of the two. They married in 1996 and had two children — Oscar, 23, and Ava, 18. Jackman later ascended to major stardom on Broadway and subsequently in Hollywood with films like X-Men, Wolverine, Le Miserable and The Prestige.
In April, Jackman celebrated his and Furness’ 27th wedding anniversary with a tribute on Instagram. “I love you so much. Together we have created a beautiful family. And life,” he wrote. “Your laughter, your spirit, generosity, humor, cheekiness, courage and loyalty is an incredible gift to me,” his post further read.
A few years ago, the Logan actor also posted images from his wedding day on their anniversary on the social media platform.
Furness is an advocate of adoption and orphan rehabilitation in Australia. She is one of the founding members of National Adoption Awareness Week. The 67-year-old actress will make her return to acting in the upcoming Australian film Force of Nature: The Dry 2.
Jackman, who shot to fame with his portrayal of the superhero Wolverine in several movies, is reprising the role in Deadpool 3 alongside Ryan Reynolds.
