Mexican actress Barbara Mori, who romanced Hrithik Roshan in Anurag Basu’s 2010 film Kites, has stepped into the world of crime thrillers with her latest series Women in Blue on Apple TV+.

Set in 1971, the series follows the story of four women who defy societal norms to become Mexico’s first female police force. Navigating a male-dominated world, they uncover a disturbing reality: they are merely a publicity stunt to distract the media from a brutal serial killer terrorising the city.

Mori plays the role of María, a determined officer who makes it her life’s mission to nab the killer. Joining her in this ensemble are Ximena Sariñana, Natalia Téllez and Amorita Rasgado, forming a formidable team of women in blue. The series is a gripping tale of courage, friendship, and the pursuit of justice.

Mori’s career took off in the late 1990s with roles in popular telenovelas. Her breakthrough came in 2004 with the iconic role of Rubí in the eponymous telenovela. Building on her telenovela success, Mori ventured into the world of film. Her cinematic journey includes both Spanish- and English-language projects. Some of her notable film roles include My Brother’s Wife (2005), a Hollywood film that marked her English-language debut, Violanchelo (2008), Insignificant Things (2008), and Treintona, soltera y fantástica (2016).

Mori made her Bollywood debut with the film Kites in 2010. It revolves around Jay (Hrithik Roshan), a Las Vegas-based dance teacher who marries immigrant women to help them obtain green cards. His life takes a dramatic turn when he falls in love with one of his clients, Natasha (Bárbara Mori). The film featured a predominantly English-language script, with some Hindi and Spanish dialogues, making it a multilingual venture.
