For years, Nick Jonas was known as the youngest brother in the famous Jonas Brothers band. Alongside his brothers, Kevin and Joe Jonas, Nick churned out hit songs like S.O.S till their band broke up officially in 2013, only to reunite in 2019 and release their sensational single, Sucker.
During the earlier years of the band, Nick was seen featuring in the Disney Channel film series, Camp Rock. However, his older brother Joe was often the one who stole the limelight from the other two boys during the band’s heydays. Over the years Nick has built up his own brand, arguably becoming the most popular amongst the three Jonas brothers.
As Nick embarks on his 30th birthday celebrations today, while raising his little daughter Malti Marie with wife and Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra, we look back at how he has made his mark as a musician, actor and entrepreneur.
Singer: Jonas Brothers to going solo
While still a member of the Jonas Brothers, Nick formed the band Nick Jonas & the Administration as a side project in 2009. The band released the studio album Who I Am in 2010 and Nick went on two tours with the band as the leadman. The band members parted ways in 2012.
In collaboration with his brothers, Nick had released his debut studio album Nicholas Jonas in 2005, before starting his own band. After the breakup of the Jonas Brothers, Nick continued his solo career, releasing three more studio albums — Nick Jonas (2014), Last Year Was Complicated (2016) and Spaceman (2021). His singles — Chains, Jealous, Levels and Close — made it to the US Billboard Hot 100.
Actor: Stage and screen
Nick’s acting career started at the age of seven on stage; he has been a part of Broadway productions like How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying in 2012.
The brothers were frequently seen on several Disney Channel ventures. Nick appeared in the TV shows Kingdom (2014-2017) and Scream Queens (2015) after the Jonas Brothers split up. He also mentored aspiring singers of The Voice in several seasons.
Nick’s first significant appearance on the big screen was in the 2015 thriller, Careful What You Wish For, steered by Netflix’s Purple Hearts director Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum. Nick went on to star in several films, the Jumanji sequel series being the biggest of them.
Producer: Dash & Lily
In recent years, Nick got into production and set up his company, Image 32, in 2020. Along with Stranger Things producer Shawn Levy, Image 32 created the series Dash & Lily (2020) that was released on Netflix. Nick and his brothers made a cameo appearance on the show as well.
Collaborator: Fashion to tequila
Nick collaborated with the sneaker company Creative Recreation to launch his footwear collection 1410 in 2017. He also collaborated with designer John Varvatos in 2018 to launch a spring clothing line and several fragrances under the JV x NJ label. The collab went beyond fashion to include the launch of Villa One, an ultra-premium tequila brand.
With wife Priyanka Chopra, Nick made a joint investment in the luxury fashion and sportswear brand, Perfect Moment, this year. They are expected to play a major role in the brand’s expansion to the Asian and Middle Eastern markets.
