NSYNC’s pop hit Bye Bye Bye has soared back into the Top 20 on Spotify’s global chart 24 years after its release thanks to its inclusion in Marvel’s Deadpool & Wolverine starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman.
Since the release of the movie on Friday, the song has climbed 22 spots to reach #16 with an impressive 3.344 million streams.
Originally released in 2000, Bye Bye Bye quickly became a hit owing to its catchy melody and innovative choreography. The pop hit’s placement during the opening credits of Deadpool & Wolverine, matched by the groovy dance steps of Deadpool as he takes on an army of Time Variance Authority’s Minutemen, has sparked renewed interest in the boy band too.
“Our work here is done,” director Shawn Levy posted on X, reacting to the news.
Comprising members Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, Chris Kirkpatrick, Joey Fatone and Lance Bass, *NSYNC achieved massive success in the 1990s and early 2000s with their blend of pop and R&B. The group disbanded in 2002.
In addition to Bye Bye Bye, the Deadpool & Wolverine soundtrack boasts of a diverse collection of 18 songs including Madonna’s Like A Prayer, Eric Carmen’s Make Me Lose Control, Chris de Burgh’s The Lady in Red and Slash by Stray Kids.
Amidst the renewed interest in the song, it has been revealed that it was not Ryan Reynolds who grooved to Bye Bye Bye in the film. Nick Pauley, Reynold’s dance double, stepped in for the actor for the sequence. Pauley recently posted a video of his audition process for Deadpool & Wolverine on Instagram.
“Crazy what can happen in 30 minutes. PS. This choreography is from the original music video. Created by the legend @iamdarrindhenson,” he wrote in the caption.
