Anupam Kher recently shared how he got Boman Irani around to do Sooraj R. Barjatya’s upcoming film Uunchai, where the two actors share screen space with Amitabh Bachchan.
“When Sooraj offered me the role, I was happy to share screen space with Mr Bachchan yet again. Sooraj told me that he has a role for Boman Irani, but he’s going through some personal problems. I called Boman that moment and told him that he would become a part of history if he did the film. Boman immediately contacted Sooraj,” Kher said, at the movie’s trailer launch in Mumbai.
Billed as an ode to friendship, the Rajshri Productions movie stars Amitabh Bachchan, Anupam Kher, Boman Irani and Danny Denzongpa in lead roles.
On his part, Boman said he was going through a very low phase at the time. “I lost a lot of people and my mother was not well. I was not in the right frame of mind. But working in Uunchai has been like being part of a spiritual history.”
“Only a great actor can be so largehearted to invite another actor, who, I hope, he loves and respects. And most importantly, Anupam did what was right for the film. He always means well for other actors. He supports other actors. He has supported me since Khosla Ka Ghosla,” said Boman, who is getting associated with Rajshri Productions for the first time with Uunchai.
Bachchan attended the event virtually due to health reasons. The 80–year-old actor said his son, Abhishek, had convinced him to do the film.
Uunchai is slated to hit the cinemas on November 11.
