Following the intense fourth episode of House of the Dragon Season 2, the makers of the HBO series dropped the trailer for the upcoming fifth episode on Monday, showing the aftermath of the Battle at Rook’s Rest.

The one-minute-four-second trailer offers a glimpse into the chaos and despair that follows the battle. The Greens celebrate their gruesome victory by parading the severed head of Meleys, the dragon of the fallen Rhaenys (Eve Best), through the streets of King’s Landing. King Aegon II (Tom Glynn-Carney), although injured, appears to have survived the fall from his dragon during the battle.

Despite the devastating loss of Rhaenys and her dragon, Queen Rhaenyra (Emma D'Arcy) remains undeterred in her quest for the Iron Throne. Her husband, Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith), escalates the tension by threatening to burn down citizens’ homes unless the Greens surrender.

House of the Dragon Season 2 has revolved around the escalating conflict between the Blacks and the Greens, drawing both sides closer to all-out war. The season began with Daemon Targaryen hiring the assassins to murder King Aegon’s young son, Jaehaerys, sparking a vengeful retaliation from the Greens. King Aegon and Ser Criston Cole (Fabien Frankel) sent Ser Arryk (Luke Tittensor), disguised as his twin brother Ser Erryk (Elliott Tittensor), to assassinate Queen Rhaenyra in the second episode, though the attempt ultimately failed. In Episode 3, Rhaenyra’s efforts to negotiate a peaceful resolution were rebuffed by Queen Alicent (Olivia Cooke), setting the stage for further bloodshed.

In the latest episode, King Aegon’s restlessness and insecurity came to a head as he flew to Rook’s Rest to join the battle for the castle. Meanwhile, Rhaenyra arrived at Dragonstone, calling for one of her dragons to be sent into the fray. Rhaenys and her dragon Meleys volunteered for the mission.

Meanwhile at Rook’s Rest, Aemond (Ewan Mitchell) attacked his own brother and his dragon, causing them to plummet to the forest floor. His dragon, Vhagar, decapitated Meleys, leading to Rhaenys’ tragic death.

The fifth episode of House of the Dragon Season 2, will air on July 15 at 6.30am on JioCinema Premium app.
