Hoichoi rolls out 14 new shows spanning diverse genres from India and Bangladesh

Hoichoi has unveiled an array of content, featuring the return of popular franchises and the introduction of fresh characters and narratives. It’s a selection of 14 new shows, introducing nine fresh productions spanning diverse genres across India and Bangladesh, encompassing four popular franchises and one new show under the banner ‘Best of Bengal’. The productions are poised to “redefine excellence in storytelling and entertainment” with artistes such as Swastika Mukherjee, Tota Roy Choudhury, Ritwick Chakraborty, Sandipta Sen, Saswata Chatterjee, Kaushik Ganguly, Chanchal Chowdhury, Jaya Ahsan, Solanki Roy, among
others.

“Over the past seven years, our journey has been nothing short of remarkable. Our vision is to entertain users in their native language. Despite producing over 140 Bengali shows in collaboration with top creators from India and Bangladesh, and offering a library of over 600 films, our vision remains unwavering as we step into our eighth year. We are setting our sights higher, with plans to unveil 14 new productions in celebration of the festive occasion of Poila Baisakh. These upcoming shows are scheduled for release between April and September 2024,” said Soumya Mukherjee, chief operating officer, Hoichoi.

Original shows from India Bokabaksho Te Bondi

Directed by Debaloy Bhattacharya, Bokabaksho Te Bondi presents an engaging plotline featuring Solanki Roy. Opola, portrayed by Solanki, is an actress yearning to break free from the confines of the spotlight. However, her anticipated final day on set transforms into a harrowing ordeal as she unexpectedly confronts an identity crisis, struggling to discern where her scripted character ends and her authentic self begins.

Parineeta

Directed by Aditi Roy and starring Debchandrima Singha Roy and Gaurav Chakrabarty, Parineeta adds a captivating chapter to the playlist. The adaptation of classic literary tales in a modern setting is part of Hoichoi’s ‘Best of Bengal’ series. “I play Shekhar, the youngest son of the Roy family. He is hot-tempered, arrogant, jealous yet vulnerable and deeply passionate. It was a wonderful shoot. The entire unit was a pleasure to work with. The script is one of the best I’ve read in recent times. And hats off to Aditi Roy. What I saw or imagined as an actor when I read the script is almost exactly what the audience will see when Parineeta releases. That happens rarely. All credit to Aditidi,” said Gaurav.

Bijoya

Helmed by Sayantan Ghoshal and starring Swastika Mukherjee, Saheb Chatterjee, and Debdutta Raha, Bijoya promises to be a memorable journey. Bijoya, portrayed by Swastika, is a resilient yet guileless woman from a small town in Bengal who sends her son, Nilanjan, played by Debdutta, to Calcutta for his higher education. However, Bijoya’s peaceful existence is shattered one fateful morning when she receives the devastating news of Nilanjan’s alleged suicide attempt. As Nilanjan lies in a coma in a hospital bed, Bijoya embarks on a relentless quest for justice in the face of seemingly insurmountable challenges.

Gutipoka

Directed by Sauvik Kundu and starring Paoli Dam and Sourav Chakraborty, Gutipoka sees Paoli portraying a humble, middle-class woman who faces severe oppression, assault, and humiliation at the hands of her husband. Witnessing a similar plight endured by one of her students, she embarks on a mission to rescue her from a sinister conspiracy, turning it into a battle for her own survival.

Adv. Achinta Aich

Starring Ritwick Chakraborty, Surangana Bandyopadhyay and Saswata Chatterjee, Adv. Achinta Aich follows the Dutta family when they discover their youngest son, allegedly murdered by their daughter-in-law Malini in their own home. They’re determined to ensure she gets a life sentence in a mental institution. Despite other lawyers turning down the case due to its apparent simplicity, Adv. Achintya Aich steps up. Known mainly for notarising documents throughout his career, he sees an opportunity to delve into a challenging legal battle.

Sequel/Franchise Announcements Noshtoneer 2

Under the direction of Aditi Roy, Noshtoneer 2, featuring Sandipta Sen, expands upon the compelling narrative with added intrigue. Sandipta portrays Aparna, who grapples with the shocking revelation of her husband Rishav’s implication in #MeToo accusations brought forth by one of his students.

Gobhir Joler Maach 2

Gobhir Joler Maach 2, crafted by Sahana Dutta and starring Swastika Dutta, Ushasi Ray, and Ananya Sen, promises an engrossing viewing experience. The seemingly idyllic lives of four childhood companions become entangled in a clandestine game of seduction. However, when the game takes a deadly turn, the very secret that could destroy them becomes their only lifeline.

Nikhoj 2

In Ayan Chakraborti’s latest directorial venture featuring Swastika Mukherjee and Tota Roy Choudhury, this gripping tale promises to captivate audiences once again. Following the disappearance of DCP Brinda Basu’s daughter after a party, suspicion falls upon her mentor, renowned journalist Romit Sen, sparking concerns of foul play. Brinda finds herself entangled in a web of lies, betrayal, and deception as she strives to locate her daughter, dead or alive.

Abar Rajneeti

The revival of Rajneeti, starring Sourav Chakraborty, Arjun Chakrabarty, Ditipriya Roy, Kaushik Ganguly, Koneenica Banerjee, and Aniruddha Gupta, guarantees an exhilarating new season. In this sequel to the first season, Rathin Banerjee’s estranged brother, Pratim Banerjee, resurfaces in a cryptic guise. Meanwhile, Rijpur is plunged into turmoil anddisorder as the Panchayat elections loom just days away.

"I play Shounak in Raajneeti. I really enjoyed playing him in Season One when he was this calm and collected individual who stood by Rashi like a rock. His calm demeanour clearly disguised a few things, as will be revealed in Season Two. The more layers a character has, the more fun it is to play him. I had great fun working on this," said Arjun.

Original shows from Bangladesh

Rongila Kitab

Led by Anam Biswas and featuring Pori Moni, the series guarantees an engrossing tale for audiences. The series follows the journey of a small-town thug who decides to turn away from his criminal life upon learning about his impending fatherhood. However, his plans are derailed when he’s wrongly accused of a local MP’s murder the very next day. Now, his top priority is safeguarding himself and his pregnant wife from both law enforcement and unseen threats.

Jimmi

Helmed by Ashfaque Nipun and featuring Jaya Ahsan, Jimmi offers a compelling exploration of human desires and dilemmas. Amid personal struggles and marital discord, Runa’s life is upended when she discovers a box filled with money in her office storeroom. Now faced with a moral quandary, what choices will she make? It is Jaya Ahsan’s debut web series, created by Ashfaque Nipun.

Golam Mamun

Directed by Shihab Shaheen and starring Ziaul Faruq Apurba, this production promises a compelling tale of justice and redemption. This is also Hoichoi’s first adaptation of the Golam Mamun character for a new series. Mamun, portrayed by Ziaul Faruq Apurba, finds himselfarrested for the murder of his would-be assailant, with his name also linked to the deaths of his friend and the friend’s wife. As a law enforcement officer, Mamun is now forced to defy the law and evade police capture to clear his name and prove his innocence!

Mitthyabadi

Under the direction of Vicky Zahed and featuring Mehazabien Chowdhury, this production delivers a captivating depiction of suspicion and intrigue. Alvira, a devoted wife and mother of a four-year-old, is thrown into turmoil when she discovers her husband’s impotence. As she grapples with this revelation, Alvira embarks on a journey to uncover the truth about her child’s paternity and unravel the injustices perpetrated against her. Mehazabien returns to Hoichoi after Sabrina with Mitthyabadi.

Bohemian Ghora

Directed by Amitabh Reza Chowdhury and featuring Mosharraf Karim, thisproduction promises a charming blend of humour and chaos. Abbas, a truck driver known for his passionate affairs, finds himself in a predicament as his seven wives from seven different districts cause havoc in his life. However, the situation takes a comedic turn when Abbasencounters trouble while attempting to embark on his eighth marriage. Mosharraf makes a triumphant return to Hoichoi following the immense success of Mohanagar, Dour, and Mobaroknama with Bohemian Ghora.
