Glen Powell’s fake hit man experiences turbulence when love comes in the way of his sting operations in the official trailer of Richard Linklater’s upcoming action comedy Hit Man, dropped by streaming platform Netflix on Thursday.
The two-minute-33-second-long trailer begins with Glen Powell’s Gary Johnson falling for a woman (played by Adria Arjona). As the video proceeds it is revealed that Johnson is a strait-laced professor who moonlights as a fake hit man for his city police department.
The trailer shows Gary undergoing several getup changes to solve crimes seamlessly and brilliantly. “Every sting operation was a performance,” says Gary who tailors his appearance to suit the fantasy of each client. “Each arrest is like a standing ovation,” adds the fake hit man.
However, Gary's carefully constructed facade is threatened by Madison, a woman who hires him to kill her husband. As romance, passion and emotions blossom, the plot takes a dark turn when it is revealed that Madison’s husband has already been murdered.
Apart from headlining the film, Powell co-wrote Hit Man with the director. The movie also stars Retta, Austin Amelio, Molly Bernard, and Mark Markoff in key roles.
Based on a magazine article of the same name, Hit Man will have a limited theatrical release starting May 24 before becoming available on Netflix on June 7.
