Netflix has an exciting lineup of fresh new content slated to drop on the streaming platform in August. Here’s a look at the web series, docu-series and a movie that are arriving on the streamer in the first half of this month.

Heartstopper Season 2

Teen drama Heartstopper, based on Alice Oseman’s graphic novel series of the same name, returns for a second season. The upcoming instalment will delve deeper into the connection shared by Charlie (Joe Locke), a nervous teenager who faced public outing and bullying from peers, and Nick (Kit Connor), a popular and older rugby player.

While the first season focussed on their blossoming relationship, Season 2 picks up after they complete their A-levels and embark on a school trip to Paris. The focus this time will be on the profound growth of Charlie and Nick’s relationship while also addressing the challenges and emotions tied to ‘coming out’.

The Hunt for Veerappan

The Hunt For Veerappan, helmed by first-time docu director Selvamani Selvaraj, throws light on the previously unseen and unheard aspects of the 17-year-long manhunt to capture the famous Indian bandit Veerappan. The four-part docu series features first-hand accounts of those who were close to the sandalwood smuggler and the relentless individuals who pursued him. From tracing the challenges faced by authorities in capturing him to offering a thought-provoking commentary on the political and social disparities, the series unravels Veerappan’s compelling saga and the aftermath of his death from an encounter with the special force.

Zombieverse

Reality series Zombieverse throws participants into a harrowing zombie apocalypse scenario. Unaware about their fate, a group of contestants assemble to participate in a dating show, only to be thrust into the nightmarish reality of Seoul besieged by zombies. Their ultimate objective is to flee the city while evading the relentless undead. The show showcases 10 participants from different walks of life navigating various challenges to advance to the next phase. The show features familiar names such as Lee Si-young, renowned for her role in the non-reality apocalypse drama Sweet Home.

Painkiller

Drama series Painkiller explores the distressing reality of the opioid crisis that unfolded in the U.S. in the 1990s. It brings to the forefront the experiences of those who suffered its devastating consequences. Drawing inspiration from Patrick Radden Keefe’s article The Family That Built an Empire of Pain and Barry Meier's novel Pain Killer: An Empire of Deceit and the Origin of America’s Opioid Epidemic, the show sheds light on the origins and aftermath of one of the most significant health crises in American history.

Heart of Stone

Heart of Stone is a thrilling spy action movie directed by Tom Harper. Starring Gal Gadot, Jamie Dornan, Alia Bhatt, Sophie Okonedo and Matthias Schweighöfer, the film follows the story of secret agent Rachel Stone, portrayed by Gadot, who is a crucial member of an enigmatic and exclusive group of elite spies known as the Charter.

The Charter comprises highly skilled agents with no political affiliations or national loyalties — their success is reliant on a unique and invaluable asset called the Heart. Rachel, together with her partner Parker (Jamie Dornan), must thwart the ambitious plans of Keya Dhawan (Alia Bhatt), who seeks to acquire and control the Heart, posing a severe threat to global stability.

Guns and Gulaabs

Guns & Gulaabs is a highly anticipated Indian comedy crime thriller created and directed by Raj & DK.
